Begin your project by placing the wrapping paper on your work surface with the back side up. Lay the back of the appliance on the paper. Draw around the appliance in a square or rectangle shape. Include handles, button, knobs and levers in the outline shape. Add 1 inch on all sides. Round the top corners of the pattern and cut it out. This is the pattern for the front and back of the appliance.

Stand the appliance up. Measure the width of the appliance’s sides and add 1 inch. Don’t forget to measure from the bottom of one side of the appliance, up and over the top, to the bottom on the other side using a measuring tape. Add 4 inches to this length measurement. This measurement will be too long, but you will be easing the sides to fit the front and back of the cover, so it is better to have too much, rather than too little. Draw the width and length side measurements on the back of the wrapping paper. Cut out the pattern.

Cut a front, back and side piece from the fusible interfacing, outer fabric and lining fabric. Lay the outer fabric pieces on your ironing surface with the wrong sides up. Match the interfacing pieces to each fabric piece with the glue-side down. Iron the pieces to fuse them together.

With the “right” sides of the outer fabric together, pin the long edges of the appliance cover’s sides to the side and top edges of the front and back pieces. Sew the pinned edges using a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Trim the excess length off the side piece. With the “right” sides of the lining pieced together, pin and sew in the same way. Leave a 3 inch opening along the top center of one seam. Trim all the sewn seams to 1/8 inch.

Turn the outer fabric cover piece right side out. Slip the outer cover inside the lining cover. Match the seams and the bottom edges. Pin the bottom edges together and sew a 1/2 inch seam allowance all the way around. Trim the seam to an 1/8 inch. Turn the appliance cover right-side-out through the 3 inch opening in the lining. Hand sew the opening closed. Press the bottom edge of the appliance cover with an iron.
